Stirring Up Fun: Where Chili Cook-Offs Began

Who knew a pot of chili could spark so much fun? 🌶️ Chili cook-offs got their start in Texas, where folks decided the best way to settle who made the tastiest bowl was with a showdown. The most famous early battle kicked off in Terlingua in 1967, and from there, chili competitions simmered across the country. Today, cook-offs aren’t just about spice — they’re about community, laughter, bragging rights, and maybe a secret family recipe or two. Whether mild or fiery hot, every pot tells a story, and every cook-off serves up more than chili: it’s pure Americana in a bowl!

Saturday, 8/23/2005 - Halcyon Chili Cook-Off, Halcyon, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. (Alpharetta)
