Digging Up Dessa - Play

Digging Up Dessa, written by Laura Schellhardt, is a heartwarming comedy‑drama that follows a young girl named Dessa who forms an unexpected friendship with 19th‑century paleontologist Mary Anning. When Dessa realizes that Mary’s contributions have been erased from history due to her gender and lack of formal education, she teams up with a classmate, Nilo, to set history right. Blending mystery, STEAM themes, and emotional growth, the play explores grief, empowerment, and the fight to honor overlooked women in science. At around 75 minutes, it’s an engaging, family‑friendly production perfect for young audiences and educational groups.

Shows available July 9th - July 23 at Woodstock Arts Theatre.
